The General Department plays a principal role in equipping first year Engineering Diploma students to take up their core programme . The Department is committed to its basic principles of imparting knowledge and preparing the students towards achieving academic excellence through attainment of core competence in basic sciences and communication skills. The Department offers the courses: Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry and English for Communication.
The English Language Laboratory assists students in improving their linguistic skills. Activities like individual and group presentations, situational conversations and software based assistance help them to enhance soft skills. The department has well-equipped Engineering Physics and Engineering Chemistry Laboratories.
Chemistry laboratory is intended to develop essential analytical skills required by the industry. The lab is equipped with apparatus and instruments for the estimation of acidity, basicity, presence of common metal irons and for pH measurements.
The Engineering physics laboratory has the following purposes and goals:
- To provide an experimental foundation for the theoretical concepts introduced in the lectures. It provides an opportunity to the students to verify the ideas for themselves.
- To familiarize students with experimental apparatus, the scientific method, and methods of data analysis so that they will have some idea of the inductive process by which the ideas were originated.
- To teach how to make careful experimental observations and how to think about and draw conclusions from such data.
- To learn how to write a scientific report in a clear and concise manner from the experimental observations.
